About Butter & Bloom
Butter & Bloom is a conceptual editorial magazine centered on baking, blending playful storytelling with a warm, nostalgic tone. It celebrates the joy of baking as both a creative practice and a shared experience, combining lighthearted visuals with thoughtfully structured editorial content.
Objective
To conceptualize and design a 12-page editorial magazine, Butter & Bloom, that celebrates baking through playful, colourful storytelling and engaging layout design. The goal was to create a cohesive visual identity that balances warmth and nostalgia with contemporary editorial structure, while showcasing strong typography, hierarchy, and multi-page layout skills across departments and feature spreads.
Process
I began by defining the tone and visual direction of Butter & Bloom: whimsical, inviting, and vibrant, yet structured enough to feel like a professional publication. I developed a colour palette inspired by baked goods and spring florals, pairing it with friendly yet editorial typography to maintain readability and personality. I mapped out the magazine’s pacing, starting with a lighter department spread (Pantry Picks), transitioning into the main feature (History of Cake), followed by a secondary feature (Breakfast Made Sweeter), and concluding with a personal holiday baking story to create emotional resonance.
